Poetry reading and and award

Friday night, I read at a Poets Coffeehouse hosted by the Rapid City Public Library. I read five of my poems: My Shadow’s Suicide, Beatified Father’s Blues, Son, Silence Is An Expanding Universe and The Hidden Falls.

I had previously entered a poetry contest sponsored by the High Plains Writers. The winners were announced during the reading, and my poem Friday Nights Without My Father’s Roommate won third place.

I was impressed with the quality of the other poets’ material. Andy Thorstenson of Hot Springs was good, as usual. But there were several others, such as Bill Donovan, who were quite moving. I stayed later than I intended to, but fortunately the baby sitter was OK with that.
